2017 Belle Reve Yates Family Vineyard Viognier

Winemaker Notes

The 2017 Belle Reve Yates Family Vineyard Viognier is sourced from a single vineyard high on the top of Mount Veeder. Showing a bit brighter than the previous vintage, this wine shows lovely white peach and pear fruits, blanketed with honeysuckle notes. Lots of lively acidity on the palate, with a hint of lemon cream and an oiliness that drapes the mouthcoating stone fruit flavors on the finish.

90 Points - The Wine Advocate - The 2017 Viognier Belle Reve gives up decadent scents of honey-drizzled apricots, jasmine, aniseed and apple pie with touches of mandarin peel and white pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a lovely oiliness to the texture and oodles of freshness lifting the opulent stone fruit and spice flavors to a long finish.

Harvest Notes

The winter of 2016-2017 finally showed some relief from the four straight years of drought seen in California. With a wetter than normal winter, the growing season started closer to normal, with flowering occurring the first week of June. The summer was dry and sunny leading to an early morning harvest on September 13th. The Belle Reve Viognier comes from two blocks in Yates Family Vineyard on the top of Mount Veeder. With no heat spikes and no rain, the fruit was able to hang, and mature, at a very natural pace.
